Thanks to combined information from DrivingItalia and High Gear, we can announce that Empire are going to release a game called "Total Immersion Racing", to replace World Sports Cars on the PSX2 and Xbox, and now to be released on the PC as well. It should be noted that this will not replace World Sports Cars by the West Brothers. Here's the press release:
Empire Interactive announced today the development of Total Immersion Racing on PS2, Xbox and PC. Total Immersion Racing is being developed at Razorworks, based in Kidlington, England. This game is slated for a Q3 2002 release.
Total Immersion Racing is a driving game with an emphasis on the highest quality driving technology linked to compelling and immersive gameplay. The player can choose a career path that leads from being the lowest ranked driver of a GT sports car all the way to becoming a world champion driving a massively powerful 8-litre prototype. On the way team engineers and managers will give advice and input to guide the player.
Total Immersion Racing pits the player against a posse of other drivers, all with their own unique personalities, driving styles, and responses to the way the player chooses to play the game. An advanced AI system has been created to ensure that every action of the player at the wheel is balanced by an appropriate reaction of the drivers that are nearby. A player that shuts the door on other drivers at every corner will learn that their attitude may come back to bite them. Motor racing drivers have a long memory. Abuse the wrong opponent, and he may not respond until many races later, when you are on the first corner of the final world championship race.
Total Immersion Racing will be a unique product that emphasizes gameplay, enjoyment and immersion by combining technology with realistic competitive driving.
