SimRacingWorld.com [SRW} offers content about sim racing computer games. The site is split into the following sections:

  • SimRacingWorld.com
This is the apex of the network. It contains most of the content of the site including our games section and news.

  • SimRacingWorld Files
Our hugely popular files site offering downloads for many racing games.

  • SimRacingWorld Forums
The community "home" of SimRacingWorld. The forums allow visitors to discuss their favourite racing games and engage in debate with other members.

History

The SimRacingWorld Network was initially launched on 8 January 2001. The network is run by Paul Tomlinson and John Slade - Paul is the owner/content manager and John is in charge of the behind-the-scenes stuff (programming/database).

The launch of SimRacingWorld was an amalgamation of GrandPrix1.com (founded in 1997) and F1-GRANDprix3.net (founded in 1999) but we also added F1RC and WSC sites. The sites were essentially independent but shared forums and a files site (then called Grand Prix Files).

On 13th June 2001 our brand new (fully integrated site) was launched. All the sites were incorporated into the same design (with different colour schemes) and all the content stored in a database so it can all be updated easily.

Further changes occurred in April 2003 when all the existing game sites were amalgamated together into one big SRW site.

In May 2008, we fully revamped and relaunched the site once more, with the addition of innovative new features such as our news "aggregator" which allows visitors to quickly check all of the sim-racing news from the web from our main site.

SRW is not really based anywhere in particular - it is hosted in the US (New Jersey) and both Paul & John are from the UK.

Original Mission Statement

When SimRacingWorld initially launched in 2001 we published the following as our mission:

SimRacingWorld aims to become as our title says - "The Number 1 Source for all the Racing Sims".

In May 2008, we changed our tagline to "the Simulation and Racing Game Resource" to better reflect our content offering.

Where has xxxxxxxx.com gone?

Prior to April 2003, SimRacingWorld used to have separate game sites - GrandPrix1.com, F1-GRANDprix3.net, F1GrandPrix4.com, WSCworld.com and StuntCarPro.com. However, in 2003 it was decided that these sites would be closed and all the content merged into our game profiles section.

Senior Staff Members

We have various people that help out with the site (see Author Profiles for more info) but the 2 senior members of staff are outlined below.

  • Paul Tomlinson
Paul is the founding member of The SimRacingWorld Network (it was his idea). Originally he ran "Paul's Grand Prix 2 Site" and "Paul's Grand Prix 3 Site" (which subsequently became F1-GRANDprix3.net). Paul is the main poster of news, articles and other content to the network and he is in overall control.

  • John Slade
John used to run "John's F1GP Page" (which became GrandPrix1.com). He now generally does all the stuff that you never see (like the database and programming) - but also the odd thing you do (yes, he does occasionally make a news post!). He designed the site and ensures that all the articles/news/files appear on the site correctly and that all the interactive elements work. Plus he wrote most of this article you are reading now!
